Replacing pump on Kenmore Calypso
Recently when my wife went to run a load of laundry, our pump went out. Instead of filling with water when it should, it made a high-pitched whine or whirring noise. Based on common sense and a quick google search, I determined our pump had gone out. The original Kenmore Calypso pump was a 2-piece deal, and my hope was that I could just replace one part. However, the company must have realized that pump was junk and have redesigned the whole thing into a 1-piece mechanism. A $149 1-piece mechanism at that! Looking at the parts diagram for the machine made the physical replacement pretty straight forward. HOWEVER, let me say that if you are going to do this yourself, lay down EVERY TOWEL you own on the floor around the machine before you disconnect the old pump. I released the hose a bit to see how much would flow and there wasn't much, so put down a few towels. But once they were fully disconnected, it was like a fire hose... Two words friends: Be Prepared

Contributor's Note
Rather than a direct "how-to", I really just wanted to focus on the towel prep. The how-to is really just: pull out the old and plug in the new the same way.
